Pretty!

The new MagKnits magazine is up. Here’s my favorite. Although I don’t care for the colors at all, but I’ll dig out my KnitPicks catalogue and see what other color options there are.

I’m doing a little better. I wore the bracelets for most of the day yesterday. I think they helped. I took a nap in the afternoon, and was able to eat a good dinner. A yummy indian curry recipe in the Fix It and Forget It Cookbook. It has chicken, sweet potatoes, onions, orange juice, curry powder, and other seasonings. Mmmmm. I’m thinking that the crock pot is going to be the way to go this pregnancy, since most of my energy is in the morning, and once the girls get home from school, it’s all chaos and homework anyway. The only problem is that my crockpot is pretty lame. It was a wedding gift 11 years ago, and it’s a small one that doesn’t have a removable cooking pot. So washing it is no fun. Maybe I’ll get a new one.

But I’ve been saying that for 11+ years now :-).

I’m going to try to do something for my body today. I have a physical therapy appt this morning, and I would like to do a light treadmill later on.

Also, I’m starting to wonder if I’m not further along than 8 weeks. I swear I felt a good, swift kick last night, and it was just below my belly button on the left side. I can’t imagine I’m that far along, but my abdomen feels like it’s totally pushed out and it’s pretty firm in there. Another week, and I’ll know for sure. Except for the sickness, which fits with the first trimester, I’m feeling a bit further than that. I would think that by now I’ve figured out the difference between my own innards moving around (which you suddenly notice more after having carried and birthed a baby, because it is a similar feeling) and being soundly kicked. And based on other things, I suppose it’s possible that I’m 4 months or so. But, like I said, we’ll see. I’m just left to lay around and over-evaluate everything my body does.

Have you tried candied ginger? I know it’s strong but it saved me when I was pregnant. Ginger really helps with nausea. Congratulations on the bun in the oven! Maybe you’ll have a little blondie boy to go with all those adorable blondie girls!

I’ve been reading for awhile, now, and love your site. I love that sweater from MagKnits. I think I’ll do one in cream & black!
A KAL for baby would be fun. I hope you do it.
    Congratulations!

Me too! I’m all about using my slow cooker, especially this fall. I’ve been searching out good soup recepies (can’t spell!) for later this fall.
Glad to hear you’re starting to feel a bit better. But 4 weeks, really?

Just wondering if the girls “know” yet? If so, how excited are they, and do they want a brother or sister (not that they have a choice!)?

The nausea suggests to me you are about 10-11 weeks along. Just guessing though.

We got a new crock-pot recently (a Rival, at Target) and it was something like $25 and we use it at least twice a week. It has a removable inner pot. There is only one way you can have kids in after school activities ( and 3 kids at that) and have dinner for everyone. Crock. Pot.

I have never done fairisle, but I might cut my teeth on Alice. I will probably do one in shades of blue or green. Hopefully I can find stuff in stash and save myself a trip to the wallet!

I like the MagKnits this time! Yay! I want to make that stripey thing, although it will make me look like more of a linebacker than I already look. Glad you’re starting to feel better…

I’m curious to know the title of that recipe. I have that book and use it quite a bit but sometimes it’s great to have the recommendation of a recipe someone else has tried and liked. I’ve done a few from the book that didn’t turn out that great. Love my crock pot, too….. fall and winter time it gets used all the time.

In many ways, I felt more firm and maybe more bloated around 8+ weeks than I do some days now at 15+ weeks.

Ok, my emails haven’t come in yet, so I can’t respond to you all individually right now. I’ll answer some questions here…

The Crock Pot recipe is called Chicken Curry on page 187. It has always turned out fabulous for me, but a friend of mine made it and said it was too dry. I think that because I have such a dinky crock pot, and it fills up so much, there’s less evaporation, so if yours is bigger, you might want to add more liquid.

My other favorite in that book is the Tortilla Soup on page 48. It is the yummiest thing EVER!!! And even though it has stuff in it my kids would normally turn their noses up at, like stewed tomatoes, they all love it and request it often.

When I try a recipe out of there that I like, I highlight it and write notes so I can easily find it again when quickly flipping through. There is so much in there, it’s easy to lose favorites.

The girls do know about the baby, and they are very excited. Veronica is all set to share her room, and they all want a brother.

I have to admit that I was attracted to the Alice pattern because the yarn is inexpensive! I get a kick out of knitting items with the yarn mentioned in the pattern.

I just realized that I have that cookbook on my shelf. I’d love it if you share a few more of your favorites because I haven’t had much luck with the recipes I’ve picked.

  12. Dani Says:

I just noticed that I marked Tortilla Soup as a recipe to try but I never got around to it. I guess I’ll have to try it next week.

I love Crock Pot cooking too and I love curried chicken! I don’t have that recipe book so I should get it. Glad you’re feeling better, and I will knit you something cute for your baby, but it probably won’t be in Koigu since that yarn is usually not in my price range. 🙂 Besides, I was thinking of designing a rattle of some sort… That’s neat that you felt a kick! I remember feeling that movement way earlier with James – it must be easier to detect with 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) pregnancies. Thanks for sharing the new magknits – I entered the contest for the spinning kit! I saw a woman spinning that way at the Evergreen State Fair yesterday. I even took some pics of the Romney’s for you. 🙂

Alice was definitely my favorite thing in Magknits too. Marnie’s scarf was pretty cute too.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I was rabidly hungry AND nauseous, especially when smelling cooking odors.

I gave my husband his first Weber grill and he cooked our meat for several weeks.

The grill lasted twenty years! And he’s still a great grill chef.
