Good morning! How’s it going out there? I had an interesting week. The only formal exercise I got in was 55 minutes of treadmill on Thursday, and weights on Friday. I think that’s the worst week yet for exercise. However, I’m doing amazing with food. This was week one of my sugar purge. No sugar, no refined carbs. I took a break on Tuesday, as I said I would, for Nate’s birthday. Even then I didn’t do too bad. The rest of the week has been great. I feel good, aside from some pretty significant headaches.
Yesterday, when I put on my tightest pair of jeans, they weren’t tight! I’m pretty happy about that.
The sacrifice I was dreading the most when contemplating this sugar fast was hot chocolate. It’s been soooo cold. I’d recently started drinking hot chocolate regularly to keep me warm, and was really enjoying it. So, I went to the store and bought some of Stash’s Wild Raspberry Herbal Tea. (Two links there). Mmmmm. It is the only herbal tea I’ve found that doesn’t need sugar. It is fabulous all by itself, and it’s been doing the trick.
Tea parties and loose jeans. I think that’s a pretty good week!
This morning, the scale was at 221. So I get to update the sidebar again. That shaves off a mere half pound, however brings my total weight lost to 24 pounds. The funny thing is, I’ve noticed more of a physical difference in the last 4 pounds lost than in the first 20. I’ll take it though.
It’s been a good week. I expect to step up the exercise next week, and I’d LOVE to drop into the teens.
How is it going for you?

just fyi, a lot of people who go on atkins/other lo-carb diets complain of headaches. i think it’s because your body NEEDS that stuff, and the pain is your body’s way of saying “stop hurting me!”

Have you tried Licorice tea? (If you hate licorice, forget this…but it’s naturally sweet.)
I’m on a carb restricted diet for the rest of my days, and this is one of my treats.

Yay for loose pants! Isn’t that just the best feeling, when your “skinny” pants aren’t too pinchy or tight anymore?

Jen- what I am doing is definitely not low carb or Atkins. I’m eating lots of beans, legumes, brown rice and whole wheat. I’m just cutting sugar and refined carbs for four weeks. I completely agree with you about Atkins and low carb diets. They’re not for me.
Diane- Licorice tea? I might try that. Thanks.
Frances- yes indeed!

Hi Laura. I just read about your Health group. You have done so well. The hard work is paying off…oh to have jeans that don’t pinch 🙂 Is it becoming a lifestyle now to incorporate healthy eating and exercise? I have 50 lbs that I need to lose and the scale continues to creep up. I do really well for a week or two, then I get sick, or start my period and I get off track for several weeks. I just can’t seem to stick to it. You’re so inspiring 🙂 I’d like to join your health group. I do have a treadmill and this past week I walked for an hour three days and 30 minutes one day. I’d like to get up to 5 days a week and start working on upper body. I notice that when I avoid white flour and sugar I’m more successful so I’m going to work on that too.

Hi Laura, found your blog today while surfing – I think this is a great idea! I am 42 5’5″ and need to lose about 70 more #s – have lost 5 since Sept. I know it is slow but it is better than gaining! I need to get motivated to start exercising again. Good luck!
