They’re coming together nicely. Making many, many thrums isn’t nearly as tedious as I would have expected.
That is a single round’s worth of thrums. I’m having fun with this so far. I’m also having creative thoughts. Wouldn’t a matching purple hat look cute with thrummed ear flaps? I think so.
I’m doing them both at the same time since we’re getting instructions bit by bit from Stephanie. Plus, I really need to get mom’s sweater done, so the quicker I get these done, the quicker the endless cotton sweater will be finished. That reminds me…. I am so happy to be knitting with wool again. It settles into such happy, even little stitches. Mercerized cotton is a cold, impersonal cocktail party where image, etiquette and connections are everything. Wool is a cozy, fireside game night with friends and fondue. Pass the grapes!

I know, you would think that making the thrums would drive you bonkers, but nope…they are fiddly and charming and I could make them all day…Oh, wait. I did.
I love your colours!

Laura, those are beautiful!! Hey wait, those are MY fav colors! Sigh, I am using sedate, manly colors on my mittens. You’re indeed making speedy progress!! I was also thinking about thrumming earflaps on a hat!! The wind always seems to find my ears under a hat. Yeah, the wool feels wonderful, but sadly, I found moths…………Please tell Olivia that her bunny was wonderful! I hope she was pleased enough to be anxious for the next project!

I LOVE your description of cotton and wool – so accurate! I’ve been working on a cables and moss stitch sweater in mercerized cotton and it’s taking FOREVER! I made a different, cables and moss stitch sweater in wool and it didn’t take anywhere near this long – I think it’s the great comfort of knitting wool, inviting you to knit just one more row.

I so want to try making these mittens, but am a little bit scared of my knitting abilities. Can’t wait to see how yours turn out. They look awesome so far!

Ooooooo, nice analogies! Darn cute mittens, too. I’m afraid if I started knitting them, I would never knit anything else. 🙂

Cute mitts!
Just had to pop in and say hello and THANKS for the inspiration to knit a cute little “best friend” doll of my very own. What fun!

I gotta say that being sneaky on a blog makes absolutely no sense at all, especially as reading your blog is one of the highlights of my life. Mittens…how fun, and I get to see them being made. One of my favorite things ever is the enormous stocking that came with presents for Christmas one year.
Thank you my wonderful daughter.
