Knitting along?

I signed up for Becky’s Bottom’s Up Bucket Hat knitalong awhile ago. (Have any of you noticed that when ever Becky is referred to on a blog, she is never just “Becky”, she’s always “the incredibly talented Becky”? It’s true.) I really want to do it (the knit along), but I need yarn help. I made one, if you recall, out of Cotton Classic, but I totally changed the pattern. Now I want something stiffer. Any suggestions? (And Becky, if you happen to read this, can I mess with the pattern again and still count it for the knit along? I love what diagonal ribs do to a bucket hat).

As far as mom’s sweater goes, I didn’t make much progress yesterday. Cotton is hard on the hands. My left hand in particular gets really sore. Abigail was throwing up yesterday morning, so she required some extra care, and I’m trying to “finish” (train) my very difficult dog such that he can be fully integrated into the house.

He was loose in the house all day yesterday, and he only ate about 20 small toys. That being said, he still did remarkably well for himself. I didn’t have much knitting time, can you tell?

A million best wishes for you training your dog to be in the house. I’d love to hear about that 🙂 We tried to do that with our dog, and she was just so messy – it ended when she threw up on the carpet. I still would *love* to have her in the house, though.

loved your last bucket, the diagonals look wonderful. I’ve made two buckets with Mission Falls 1824 cotton and loved the way they turned out. The yarn has just enough body to hold up the hat well, but it’s still nice & soft for the summer!

Awwww…you made me blush. Thank you for the compliment!

Some people have been personalizing the bucket hat without changing the very basic construction of it. Someone (dollydimpleknits.prettyposies.com) added a lacy stitch to hers, and someone else (I can’t recall who, unfortunately) added a sideways cable to the band of the bucket she knit in my winter knitalong. It looked neat. I look forward to seeing what you do with yours!

P.S. Are you doing the Bottom’s Up or the Bucket o Chic? I find Rowan’s ASC or Lion Brand Cotton Ease to be great for the Bucket o Chic. For the Bottom’s UP I used a smaller gauge wool/cotton blend…

another Laura- my dog does live in the house, but he spends his indoor time attached to a leash, attached to the refrigerator (because he strong enough to drag any other piece of furniture around the house with him), or in his huge kennel in the family room. My kitchen is very open and central in the house, so he isn’t isolated, but he remains contained and controlled. I’m trying to get him off leash in the house. Continually trying…..

Amanda- thank you very much! I looked for Mission Falls at a LYS today at your suggestion, and they only had a few funky colored skeins left. Now I’m contemplating Turino Silk.

Becky- I’m doing the Bottom’s Up. The smaller gauge makes sense, because when I tried to follow the pattern with worsted weight mercerized cotton, it was humongous.

If you want to be like the incredibly talented Becky you can pick up some Plassard Grande Large at Full Circle in Ballard.

First I’d like to commend Laura for all of the progress that she has made with Abner and encourage her to stick with it!!! It really is working!!! You have come so far, my dear! You really, really have and he really, really wants to be the wonderful boy you want him to be. So, hang in there and just look at how much you have accomplished and be proud!

Another Laura- I’d be glad to see if I can be of help with getting your dog to work with being inside. Please get my email address from Laura if you are interested.

Someone told me Full Circle in Ballard was gone; it’s still there?? I am thrilled!!! It was my first ever “real yarn store” and I was blown away!!!(sigh) I had no idea there was so much fabulous yarn out there, other than what you could buy at the drugstore or fabric store. “We’ve come a long way, Baby!”

La, I love your red bucket hat! (Dumb Donald, hahahaha) If you do make it in the green, it would be fabulous!

I have a golden retriever too! He’s been a lot of work, and he is mostly an outside dog, but he is pretty good now about coming in for the evening and laying down in the living room. He sleeps in our bedroom, but we do have to tie him up so he doesn’t wander around during the night. Our vet told us that goldens take about 3 years to calm down, and Bear will be 3 in October. He is definitely much calmer than he was when we got him (he was 10 months at the time). It’s been worth all the work, though. He’s the sweetest, most loving dog and completely loyal to us. He just can’t help himself sometimes, and gets into trouble (but it happens less and less now!)
