Good morning.
On Thursday I started a “home” version of the Pro Club’s 20/20 Lifestyles diet. Or something similar. I have two friends that have done really well on it, and they’ve been coaching me. Basically, it’s similar to South Beach, it’s similar to what I’ve been trying to do anyway, but more strict. Shakes, and lean protein for two weeks. Then add vegetables. Then add moderate dairy. Then add beans and legumes. Then brown rice. Then slowly add in everything else you like to eat, watching for blood sugar and craving triggers.
You HAVE to exercise to chemically break up the insulin resistance built up on fat cells (as far as I remember from hearing about it 8 months ago).
You HAVE to drink at least 8 cups of water a day. (Which I’ve been doing on and off forever).
So, I’m two days into it. It’s going great. I’m feeling great. It isn’t that much of a change for me because like I said, I’ve been sort of doing it for months, but not strictly. So now I’m really doing it, with no indulgences. No desserts. No simple carbs. No slip ups.
I’m pretty excited, of course, tonight is the semi-annual “banana splits for dinner” party my mother-in-law throws for the women and the children in the family while the men go off to a church meeting. And I’ll be eating a strawberry shake!
Yesterday, I hit the treadmill for 35 minutes. Thursday, I went for a couple short walks up big hills and did lunges. Today is a physical therapy and weights day. I weighed in at 223.4 which is pretty low for me.
Here we go.
How was your week?

How FUNNY! I’m signed up for 20/20 too. I start Tuesday for my initial fitness assessment. I’ve heard the elimination diet is tough. She said a week of 1200 cal/day + the 4 protein shakes the first week. You lose 8-12lbs and then slowly add 1 food group back in per week.
I’ll let you know how it goes for me.
Their program has a 48% success rate. If you do this Laura, you’ll be able to move that scale downward, I know it!

I never heard of 20/20, or maybe I did and forgot. After all, I forgot yesterday was Saturday.
Although I don’t do shakes, I do have to strictly limit my carbs to control my blood sugar and keep my insulin from surging. I’m a type 2 diabetic and have become very insulin resistant. By limiting your carbs and lowering your weight (all 3 of you here), you are lessening the chance to develop uncontrolled type 2 on down the road with all the nasty side effects.
I have noticed that once you eliminate those simple carbs, you stop craving them. It does get easier as you continue. Have you noticed that?
Oh, no lunges here…yet, but I did lost 1.75 pounds this week…ya hoo!
Everyone is doing great! Good luck!

That’s great! I did terrible this week – ok on exercise, lots of walking but I didn’t make it into the gym. I also tried not recording my points and that was a BIG mistake since I fudged all the time (literally!) Next week I’ll be back to writing everything down – no more naughty out-of-control eating. 🙂

I started the South Beach Diet last week (I’m on day 9) after my midwife (just in for a yearly check) asked, “How are you feeling about the extra 10 pounds you’re carrying around?” Not the nicest thing to say to a woman! Anyway, I’ve never, ever been on a diet except when I was vegan and vegetarian in college. I thought it would be awful. But, aside from the horrible PMS cravings yesterday (I just had a no-sugar fudgecicle to calm the beast), I’ve been doing great. I lost 4 pounds between Monday and Friday of last week. I know it’ll taper off, but it’s exciting to have early success.
My two weeks on phase one ends on Saturday. We’re going to a wedding on Saturday. It makes me nervous!

Well, I have had two shake so far (one for dinner and one for breakfast) and I have come to the conclusion that I still hate the taste of soy milk. And also, the taste of my gluten free brown rice powder, which I add for protein.
But, they are a very quick and healthy breakfast, which is the point, right?
I’m going to start climbing stairs on Tuesday; my climbing partner has convinced me that I can do them (but I will probably be sore!), so we’ll see.
