I managed to fix the myriad of errors, weave in some ends
and knit and turn the heel on the argyle stocking that I really want finished, but no longer have any desire to knit whatsoever.
And not only am I now faced with a new insanity of incorporating the color pattern into gusset decreases, but I have a whole other argyle stocking to knit when this one is done. Second stocking syndrome is rearing its ugly head.
Christmas itself is not my motivation. I have stockings we can use this year. It’s the combination of knowing that if these ever get set aside, I will never ever pick them up again, and wanting the finished product really bad that keeps me from starting the many new projects that are pulling at me.
I want to knit another Cashmerino Esther Williams hat for my neighbor that has cancer. I haven’t met her yet, but she smiles warmly when she drives by with scarves wrapped around her head. She’s an older lady that needs a beautiful hat.
I now have TWO pairs of legwarmers that I want to knit for myself. The yarn is set aside in my bedroom already. They’re both green.
And then there’s the lace, which you already know about.
I keep plugging along. Part of why it’s so difficult is because it’s a big, uneven mess that desperately needs both a good blocking, and the dark blue x’s that will be duplicate stitched on before it even looks good. I continue on in faith that it’ll be nice when it’s all done, but right now, it’s a Monet. That may work for big paintings, but not my stocking.

Well, I think it looks great. Keep going – you can do it! 🙂 Sounds like you’ve got plenty to motivate you, even if it is all those projects you really want to get to. Just think of how fabulous these stockings are going to be when you’re finished! I finished spinning the red and green yarn and I’m hoping to buy some white roving next week at the VSG sale. Let’s see if I even get started on the knitting this year!

The stocking looks fantastic, and I especially love the colors. Maybe knit the hat in between the stockings, break it up a bit and accomplish another goal at the same time.

It’s lovely! What about 2 stitch stripes for the gusset? Intarsia-style. Striped gussets were in my pattern, check out the pics I have on my blog.
I have one stocking done, and one to go! Thanks for organizing the knit-along, it’s great to have the motivation!

I think it looks awesome. You will be so happy when it is done:) I wonder if you even need the dup. stitch? Can’t wait to see the finished stocking!

I say make the rest of the foot, except the toe, that pretty green. make the toe blue like the cuff & heel.

solid gussett and foot gets my vote. maybe a contrasting toe?!

The beatiful colours of a butterfly show up far better on a dark green leaf than they do amid riotous flowers.
I think the plain color would make the argyle more striking.

I’m with some of the other commenters, solid foot and contrasting toe would be striking and really show off the color work.

Wow, this looks great so far. I love how the colors look together. It’ll make a big difference when you get the dup stich in too. As far as the gusset goes maybe it’ll look good if you did the bottom of the foot solid and the top in pattern. That’s what I’d do if it was a sock but it might look silly like that if its just hanging by the fireplace. Anyway, good luck.
