Friday is knitalong day!

Well, my laundry isn’t completely done, and I’m not moving to Fiji. It’s mostly done and put away. It’s very, very close. I have a load of delicates and a load of Clark’s clothes left. Nate helped, although he denies being concerned about Fiji. I think he should be very concerned.

I wasn’t able to even look at my needles yesterday, so there isn’t any more stocking progress to show, beyond the yellow cuff you saw yesterday.

I remember a particularly wonderful laundry day over a year ago, where I spent the entire day doing laundry. I’d put in a load, put one away, and sit and knit until it was time to rotate again. It was fantastic. At the end of the day, all the clothes and linens were clean and put away, and I had, in my mind, spent the day knitting. I’ll bet dinner was even in the crock pot before lunch. The day was that good. I remember thinking that this was by far the best way to do laundry, and quite justified. I intended to do it again. That was one laundry day over a year ago.

Why is that?

Right now I can sum it up in a word, and that word would be Clark. But before he was born, I still couldn’t manage it. However, in thinking about it, the 8 months before he was born I was too horribly sick to knit anyway. So that laundry day must have been shortly before the pregnancy and certainly before the moving insanity. Yup, must have been.

One day, I tell you. One day I will look forward to laundry day, because it will mean knitting. It will be synonymous. Isn’t that a happy thought? Doesn’t it make you want to sort dirty clothes right now?

Me neither. But it’s a good way to sweeten an inevitable and continuous chore.

So, knit-along day. What’ve you got? It sounds like some of you are discouraged and distracted. Tell us about it. Anyone have anything great? Finished?

I need to swatch some argyle still, and I leave you with a pretty picture of my mom’s birthday flowers.

“Discouraged and Distracted”. . .you nailed it Laura! I just haven’t been able to bring myself to frog the santa stocking and haven’t wanted to deal with thinking up a better idea. . . so the distractions started. . I’ve gotten more knitting done during this KAL than I have in a long time because I’m working so hard to avoid the subject of the KAL. . . so, it’s still productive! I’ll get there. It’s inspiring to watch your beautiful work. . thanks.

I, too, have been distracted. I’ve been working on other projects and I probably only have another 3 hours or so to finish up my second stocking. However, I’ve not even un-distracted myself long enough to send a picture!! Oh well, like Carrie, I’m getting lots done on other projects!
    Thanks for the encouragement! 🙂

I’ve started spinning the yarn!!! Now I just need to get some pics taken and return to the blogosphere. I’ve only had snatches of internet time lately…

It’s been ages since I’ve done laundry all day. The house I live in now has a 60 year old septic system that I’ve been very careful not to over fill. So, I have gotten into the routine of doing a couple loads a day, sometimes 3. Just remember, laundry will always be there; your kids, however, will turn 18 and head off to college before you know it. My youngest is 18 and, well, he’s still home going to a local college and he does his own laundry, but I still miss my little guys in their superman capes and getting on my knees for hugs.

Distracted is right! I have way too much going on right now, but I am enjoying it so I can’t complain. The stocking is coming along slowly, all the more so since I just figured out I have been purling incorrectly for the past 10 years . . . my other knitting (correctly purled) is moving along quite nicely – stocking? A bit slower. For all the dirty details (and I mean dirty) check out my latest post, the one I meant to do last Friday.

I have to say though, that we are getting dangerously close to December so we need some serious motivation and excitement around this Knit-Along . . . any ideas anyone? Anything else exciting to report? How will we celebrate when we all have our stockings hung by the chimney with care on Dec. 24th?? I need motivation!

Well I am doing the laundry now, well the washing machine is washing it, but I thought I would read my blogupdates whilst waiting for it to finish. Great way to do 2 things at once. You must have a lot of washing though to have to spend the whole day doing it, but with 4 little kids I suppose there would be a fair bit of it. Hope you can get to your knitting too.

Laundry for 4 small children can’t be funny, now my 3 boys are older they all do their own. I have to say I don’t miss pairing all the socks and folding all their t-shirts. Hope you get some knitting time soon.

Sorry I haven’t checked in. I spent a couple hours yesterday recoloring my charts for the Alpine Treasure Stocking. I have fought with this pattern for over a month now, but I will be able to conquer it. I just don’t think it will be done in time for Thanksgiving like I had hoped. At this point, I’m nervous about even having it done for Christmas, but we’ll see. I think I’ve made some major breakthroughs in understanding the pattern, but it still very slow going, because I’m not SURE, and I keep second guessing myself.
