I went to the LYS yesterday, as promised, and came home with this! (If you don’t feel like following the link, it’s Learning to Weave in hardcover by Deborah Chandler). And it was even in the 50% off bin, so I only had to use $13 in store credit! So the reason I don’t have anything to show you today is because I spent any knitting time I might have had reading the introduction and first section of a weaving book.
Right now, Nate is flipping through the new IK that just came in the mail. I think it’s great that he takes an interest. And he’s genuinely interested. Mainly because he’s an artist, and a magazine artist at that, so he looks at layout, and photography, and ads…. and then he comments on the patterns. It is interesting getting a male perspective on a knitting mag.
I have to say that about the only thing in this issue that I think is particularly cool is the carpet bag. I mean, come on, it’s a carpet bag. With dowels and everything. That is SO COOL!!!

I love the shoes! Who would have guessed they’d come up with clog/boots?!

Oooh! I haven’t gotten my mag yet-now I’m not only waiting for my Knitpicks order, but IK too?! The suspense just might kill me. She sure looks like is she gripping that bag tightly. Must be heavy.

Your Learning to Weave book is my favorite weaving reference book. I get it out every time I warp my loom – and I personally love warping front to back. (I had originally learned to warp back to front.) Handwoven (by Interweave Press) is also a great magazine. Did you happen to look at looms?

I just got my Interweave too. That bag is totally awesome – although I could see myself tweaking the floral pattern…

The bag is cool but you’d need a bank loan to finance it and forklift to hoist it!

I loved the bag the first time I saw it on the IK preview site. But the amount of yarn it uses — I think it would be over $300 to make!
I’ve been considering using something like Lion Brand Fisherman yarn and dyeing it myself. It’d be quite a project, but it might be worth it. You know, when I run out of stash yarn and have knitted all the yarn I own 😉

When i saw this bag in my mag, I said a loud “WOW”. it’s so beautiful. I don’t know if I’ll have the stamina to make it though. although i rrrreally want to.
