So, assuming that I will be induced two weeks from today, I guess I’m starting to come to grips with the fact that I’m actually having a baby.
That may sound nuts, but it’s been difficult to wrap my head around this pregnancy. I’ve focused on how sick I am, how loosey goosey my joints are, etc. But the baby part… kind of been in denial or something.
Right, so, 2 weeks.
I’ve made a list of things to do. As for today…
-I’d like to get my kitchen islands cleared off. Mountains of papers to deal with.
-I need to wash all the bedding again (lice, remember?).
-I’m meeting a friend at the mall around lunchtime ’cause we want to visit and she’s lice phobic. While there, I’m going to look at pajamas for the hospital. That was one of my favorite things I did with Clark. We had to stay the extra day because of the Strep B thing, and I dressed him and myself in pajamas instead of wearing the dumb hospital clothing. It was so much more comfortable.
-I hope to begin cleaning out the crib.
I should probably stop there so I don’t burn out first day. But there is another thing, and I need your help.
Remember the Goldfish socks? Well, they’re my first toe-up pair, and I’m halfway through the first heel. I’m not enjoying this heel, which is why they’re not done yet. I’ve heard of a toe up heel flap, and I’m wondering where to find it? Is there a good reference online? I Googled and found a couple, but didn’t really know where to go. I’ve also heard there’s a book by Wendy somebody…
If you have a suggestion, I’d appreciate it. I’m pretty sure I started the heel too soon on my one sock, so I’m going to rip it out anyway. I’d love to take them to the hospital with me. I’ve made a habit of delivering in cool socks, but never handknit socks. Seems a shame, considering.
There is a problem, however. I can’t remember the last time I donned a pair of socks. Reaching my feet to try it on as I go isn’t going to be easy or comfortable, and I’m somewhat doubting it’s even possible at this point. :-). But I’m gonna try.

Hi Laura, I don’t comment very often, but wanted to congratulate you on the impending baby! Also, for a toe-up heel flap, take a look at Widdershins on Knitty. They have a cabled as well as a plain sock that could be a good jumping-off point for your heel. Best wishes!

so I don’t know about the sock prob, but I want to say ONE WEEK!!! OMGosh! yayayayay how exciting! Also about the cleaning off the kitchen Island – I too have been downsizing the paper piles this weekend. Just start one at a time. Get it completely thrown/filed away and then start on the next. That way it doesnt turn into a HUGE pile mess that seems endless 🙂 love ya sis

As for the socks, I love using the reinforced heel from Cat Bordhi’s “New Pathways for Sock Knitters: Book One.” I hope you find one you like!:)

Just wanted to let you know the “Wendy” you’re looking for is probably Wendy D. Johnson. She Has a book out called ” Toe Up Socks For Everybody”.
Hope This Helps,
Mary

Why not look at Wendy Johnson’s free patterns at her site “wendyknits.net”?

Yes, Wendy Johnson is who you are thinking of and her new book is “Socks from the Toe Up”. I took two sock classes from her in May. I love her short row heel the best — no gusset!! She also has a couple of heel flaps with gussets and her book is excellent — worth every penny. She did the teaching portions of the book in plain natural-white wool so it’s really easy to see the details. I will never knit socks top-down again!

2 weeks? Are you serious?? And I totally understand the not comprehending baby thing. that’s how I was when i was pregnant with Riley. 🙂
I have never knit socks from the toe up so I’m no help. Heck..not only could I not reach my feet but I couldn’t stand the feel of socks anyway. I felt like I was suffocating if I wore them when I was pregnant.
I can’t believe how the time has flown by. If you ever need any company just give me a holler. I’m not far and I could use the adult conversation as well 🙂
