What’s that smell?

On Saturday, the family and I drove down to Maple Valley to go to the Fall Fiber Sale at The Pines Farm, a Romney sheep and Angora Goat farm. I meant to get pictures. Didn’t. I spent all of my time in the fleece room, trying to decide between, well, all of them, really. I came home with three lamb fleeces, about 19 pounds of raw wool.

Plus a carded batt.

Yesterday, I washed a wee bit of it to play with before heading off to church and a big family dinner. This is what resulted.

For some reason, the raw fleece smell is pleasant on a farm, and a bit shocking in my house. We’re fixing that.

It’s going to take awhile.

Lucky! I can’t wait to get my hands on a raw fleece. There is a local place that shears Corriedale in January (I don’t understand shearing cycles) and I’m going to get one or two of those in the new year.

And you say I have to much fiber?

Beautiful colors! They have some very nice fleece there at The Pines, and LOTS of it! I actually miss the raw fleece after I’ve washed it all up. It’s so cool how it cleans up. It’s almost magic!

Ohh. You did a very good job choosing those. It looks gorgeous! Dive in and enjoy that wool, it looks delicious!

Oooh – I’m jealous of all the fleece, but not of the washing! Did I mention my friend Gretchen washes fleece for $2 a lb?

The fleeces look lovely, such gorgeous crimp. Fleece fumes, I love them but they make the rest of the family gag.
