Good morning!
I can’t tell if I’m feeling better or not yet, as I haven’t tried to do anything too physical, but I’m hoping I’m getting better.
I haven’t exercised this week. There were a couple days I wanted to take a walk, but I’ve been too sick.
Monday was a rotten eating day, but the rest of the week was ok.
I’ve been thinking about starting my annual sugar fast early this year. Usually, I do it between Halloween and Thanksgiving, but I’m frustrated with how I seem to do great for a week or so and then crash into a major junk food indulgence. I think I’d make some good headway if I avoided those. My main concern is the soy milk I use for my protein shakes. It is very sweet, with brown rice syrup or something in it, and I need my shakes. So I don’t know if I should allow the soymilk as an exception, or if I should try to substitute with dairy. I’d really rather not do that. I don’t like the texture as much.
My friend Katie wants to recommit by trying to lose 10 pounds by December. I’d be happy with that, and it should be very doable. December is 12 weeks away. I put a sticky note on my calendar with 10 boxes to check off, 1 for each pound.
Anyone else want to try?
I’m up a pound from last week, but it’s due to female issues. I’ve been extremely regular for myself the past few months, and it’s quite irritating. I don’t like it, though I’m sure it’s a good sign health-wise.
It still sucks.

I would love to join in… I just lost 15 lbs through a hysterectomy – that was some huge fibroid in there. So with that momentum, I would like to lose another 20, but 10 sounds a good short term goal. Not really sure how best to accomplish it, as I am still healing from the surgery – only 4.5 weeks out, so exercise will be limited to walking. I go back to work part time next week and full time the week after, which may take all my energy – plus it will have to cool down below 90 before I walk far…so, eating healthy is the other option. And I am like you. Good for a week, then crave junk. I have too many excuses – full time HS teacher, mom of 3, too busy too crazy to eat right and exercise. But with my new phase of life, I would like to have a new body to go with it. I am only 40, and I want to feel healthy and vibrant.

IMHO, I would say to keep the soymilk for your shakes. I would guess that the most important thing would be to eliminate the truly gratuitous sugar, right? Having the sweet taste and preferred texture in your shakes could be really satisfying and make it easier to avoid the unneeded sugars. Another alternative would be to try using a lighter soymilk with no flavorings. I like Pacific Select Plain.
I hope you are feeling better soon!

I’m game. I need to get back on track again. I keep starting and then doing great for a week or 2 and then stuff my face with cake or something silly like that and start eating crud all over again.
Btw…they do make unsweetened soy milk. I haven’t tasted it…but it’s easily available out there. It might be worth taking a look at if you want the soy without the sugar :o)

There is non-sweetened soy. The company is Westabrae. We like the Unsweetened Vanilla. It was recomended by our dentist. We use this in non-dairy smoothies and add a little bit of pinapple juice concentrate. (Two table spoons.)

That sounds like a great idea! Like you, and everyone else, I am good at the whole “sugar thing” for a short while, and then give in and can’t seem to stop. I also know that I lose when I avoid sugar. 10 pounds by December sounds good, too.

How about almond milk?
You sound like me. I am an “all or nothing” type person. To have any success I have to cut out all sugar, I can’t have “just a little”. It’s just how I’m programmed. When I’m on track, no sugar I feel so good and do really well. I also cut out all the “whites”:white flour pasta, white flour breads or crackers, salt and sugar. Good luck! It is hard work to stay on track, but the longer you can do it, the easier it gets.

Ooh, I like your sticky note idea… and I’m gonna steal it. 🙂 I’m also making a curtain but it’s just a tab one so not so complicated. I’m only doing it because our church needs one to cover a shelving area. I’m supposed have it finished, but I’m a little apprehensive about starting the buttonholes. I’ve never done them before and that makes me nervous.
