With oodles of pictures!
On Saturday night, we took the kids into Austin to see the bats. Many years ago, before my sister lived in Texas, before I had any possible reason to EVER be in Texas in my lifetime, I read about the bridge that housed hundreds of thousands of bats in Austin and about their incredible nightly flight. I LOVE bats. So I was very excited.
We got to the park under the Congress Bridge at around 7. The crowd was already starting to gather.
The bats were supposed to come out around 8:15. So we waited.
and waited
and waited
and waited
It got a little darker
and darker
and by the time those hundreds of thousands of tiny, dark brown bats decided to grace us with their presence, we couldn’t see a bally thing.
So that was disappointing. I guess we’re a little late in the season to be able to see them well. There’s always next year.
We found a tiny little pink gecko in the house the other day. That was exciting.
We see much bigger geckos on the garage door and on outside of the house at night, along with the big old toads that like to hang out on the driveway after dark. We didn’t have reptiles up in Seattle, we had rodents.
I prefer reptiles.
And here are some pictures of Max and Mieko today.
And then Max got bit in the cheek…
And finally, our first houseplant after the move!
I’m told that the selection at the nursery will get more interesting come Fall. But I have a plant now! Something green and alive for me to take care of. I can wait for more.
Lots of white in this house. White walls, white doors and trim, light colored carpet. It’s kind of weird. I haven’t lived in a white house in over 10 years.
