Welcome to the web

Our hosting service is having technical difficulty right now, so if my site doesn’t always come up, that is why, and they are working on it. Keep trying. I’m getting Abby off to school, and I’ll post again after that, provided I can even access my page. What would my birthday website experience be without technical difficulty? Maybe now I’m initiated or something. Yeah, whatever.

Socks

I think today I’ll post some pictures of the crazy pair of socks I knit for my middle child, Olivia. Of the three, she is the one most interested in knitting. She frequently sees some article of clothing in a book or magazine, or when we are out and about, and asks me to knit it for her. She seems to know the difference between knitted and woven fabric, because if it isn’t knit, she asks me to buy it for her instead. Olivia is five. She has knit a washcloth, and is currently working on her very own scarf. In one of the magazines Nate has come home with, (he brings home knitting books and magazines for me on a regular basis, I still pinch myself), I read a really cute little poem for teaching kids to knit. There is a separate one for purl, but we haven’t got that far yet. The girls ran with it.

Here is little Olivia modeling her washcloth.

Here she is working on her scarf. I’m so proud!

SO, back to the socks. You can probably tell that Olivia likes color, and her socks are no exception. The heartbreaking thing is that she really wants to be knitting socks herself. I don’t think she’ll be content with scarves and washcloths very long. If anyone has any suggestions for what a little five year old can knit that might be a little more exciting, please let me know.

I knit the socks with Dale of Norway. The yarn store that is close to me hasn’t had a great selection in awhile. The owner suggested I make socks out of the Dale. I’m not sure if it was the best choice. We’ll see how they hold up. They are fuzzing quite a bit already, but so are the socks I made out of Regia in January, so maybe that’s just life. Any insight would be welcome. These are the only two pairs of functional socks I have knit. I have made many Christmas stockings out of worsted, but those don’t have to hold up to wear and washings.

Hmmm. Maybe you’ll get the WIP tomorrow? I have so many pictures to play with now, I can spread it out a little.

And now, the Manly sweater

Hi all. I have taken oodles of pictures today, and have sized them for the site. A big thanks to the husband for doing most of the computer work, and showing me stuff. It’ll be slow going, considering he’s learning as he goes as well, he’s just better suited for it. So the sidebar will be changing, slowly but surely, as we figure out how to mess with code and add the fields I want.
Ahem, moving on……

Maggie has been wanting to see the Manly sweater I knit earlier this year for my darling hubby, (very sweet of her), and I am now in a position to accommodate. Happy day! SO, without any further ado……

Nice, no? And just because I can, here’s another!

(Yes, he is pulling weeds in a nice mohair sweater, slacks, and work gloves. He’s cute though!)

This is the Manly sweater from the SnB book. I had to modify the sleeves significantly. Following pattern for the medium size lands you with sleeves for a gorilla, but instead of rewriting the whole pattern, I just messed with the sleeves and got it to work. It is still a nice sweater. I would knit it differently the second time, were that to happen. At the time, I was prepared to frog and reknit it entirely, but the husband was tired of seeing me work on it, and declared it finished. Since it is his sweater, I half-heartedly agreed.

I still fantasize about frogging it one day while he’s at work and knitting it all over again anyway. We’ll see.

So there is my first post with pictures. Let me know if there are any problems viewing anything. I have a WIP to show, but I’ll save it for another day. Probably tomorrow.

picture picture

Well, my fabulous neighbor lent me his camera last night, so I get to take lots of pictures today of projects. Unfortunately, it is currently raining outside, so I’m going to have to be creative. I hope to post images soon.

Testing, 123…..

Wow! Hi there. For those who are browsing, my name is Laura, and this is my birthday present from my fabulous husband. Isn’t it cute? I have been reading and commenting on knitting blogs for a few months, and now I have one of my own! Happy Birthday to me! I turned 29 yesterday (that’s the real 29, not the endless 29. Next year I will be 30.) and we had a great day in Seattle with the kids. I am going to be spending awhile trying to figure out how to set up the blog exactly how I want it, so please stop by often to view my progress.

As for today’s post…..HAPPY BIRTHDAY GAYLE! Gayle is my friend, and it is her birthday today. I hope you have a beautiful day, despite the weather.

Next, I have found that reading blogs cuts considerably into my knitting time, so for that reason, along with the fact that cash is pretty darn tight right now, I haven’t been knitting much in the past month. I can feel the lack, and I must remedy the situation soon. Especially now that I have an official place where I can brag, um, I mean blog about my projects. It is highly enjoyable to discuss knitting with people that understand and love knitting themselves. With the exception of Gayle and my sweet husband (who only fits into the first category), I don’t have any knitting friends. My close friends have no interest in knitting whatsoever. I have three little princesses at home with me that make it very difficult to go out and join knitting groups. I NEED KNITTING FRIENDS! This is why I wanted a blog. I have learned much from reading knitting blogs, but I can hardly go on and on about my own projects on the comments page of another.

As of right now, I still don’t have a digital camera, but I hope to have a session with my neighbor’s soon so that I can show everyone the things I’ve been working on.

Last year was quite knitting productive. I will get a gallery up when I can. This year, I have made a number of cool things, which I hope to show you soon.

Welcome to all. I’m going to sign off now, and look at the software manual to try to figure out how to set up stuff in the side bar.
