Health Group- Year 4, week 34?

I’m guessing we’re in week 34. I know we missed a couple of weeks with Madrona and Mid-Winter Break.

I’m feeling better so far today, but it’s still early. How are you all doing?

Like I said yesterday, I’ve been working on it this week. I quit sugar, and have exercised and drank a lot of water every day. I’ve been tracking my food in Calorie King, but have had a tough time being consistent. For the week, I’ve averaged out just fine, but I’ve had high days and very low days. A couple days, I was 500 calories under my target, and I just didn’t want any more food. Other days, I went a couple hundred over.

No wonder my body is such a wreck. I seem incapable of taking adequate care of it.

Anyway, I’m considering this a good week, and while I dreamt of eating canned fruit in heavy syrup last night, I’m determined to make it through the weekend clean. Next week, I get to start juicing my wheatgrass which will help the cleanse.

And on a completely different topic… I had something verified at Madrona that I keep forgetting to tell you.

In my Short Rows class, the lady sitting next to me had taken the Make It Fit class that I couldn’t get into. I asked her what the most valuable thing she learned was, and she talked about armhole shaping, which was what I needed to hear. She said that the teacher said that everyone, no matter their size, has a 3 1/2 to 4 inch shoulder.

Everybody.

I couldn’t resist, I had to measure myself right there and then, and as I suspected, my shoulder is freaky small. It’s 2 1/2 inches. 2 1/2 tiny little inches of shoulder. That’s all I’ve got. I’ve always known my shoulders were extremely small, because I can’t keep a purse or bag strap on them to save my life.

It. Won’t. Stay. Up.

Never has.

I can never find clothes that both go around my bust and fit correctly in the shoulder. So this was good to know. It confirms what I suspected, that I’ll need to modify sweaters that I make for myself. Changing the armhole seems doable enough, but then subsequently altering the sleeve cap, well, there I’m not so confident.

Remember back a few years ago, when I was fitted for a bra and the lady had a hard time with me because I was too long in some places and too short in others? (I think it was a short armhole and long ribcage, or the other way around, I don’t know). And now my shoulders are significantly smaller than everyone else’s…

I’m abnormal. But I guess I knew that. :-).

Health Group- Year 4, week 31

Well, and I’m not making this up, my feet hurt this week. Enough that I couldn’t exercise. I did weights once, and I should have done some physical therapy which I never got to, but I couldn’t have hit the treadmill. They’re getting better. I don’t know what happened, but it was the top of my foot, pretty high up, and it was excruciating. It kept me up at night. And I didn’t drop anything on it, I didn’t twist it… For the first few days, it was the right foot, and now, it’s mostly the left.

Freaky weird.

I ate ok until the weekend.

This week, with Madrona and Valentine’s Day and everything, and my freaky weird feet… I’m just going to try to eat sensibly and drink more water. I’ll pick up exercise again next week.

How ’bout you?

Health Group- Year 4, week 30

I’ve been naughty this week. I’ve been going 250-500 calories under my calorie target until last night, when I went to a party and ate a lot.

I just didn’t feel like eating to meet my minimum calories when I wasn’t hungry.

Something that has helped me the past few weeks is to eat a large, rich lunch… spinach and cheese ravioli is one of my favorites, to get me through the late afternoon snacking hours gracefully. It has worked very well, and I enjoy it. It feels decadent.

I’ve been exercising all week, and once I do weights and a little bit of physical therapy today, I’ll be quite happy with my week.

How’s it going?

Health Group- Year 4, week 29

I exercised once, and didn’t meet my calorie target at all this week. I don’t think I did bad, necessarily, but not great. I was extremely busy getting the spinning done and working at school and such, so I nibbled and snacked a lot as opposed to taking the time to eat good meals.

However, I can tell I’m building muscle again and I’m in better shape. I’m happy with that.

Now I’m off to dye the yarn I’ve spun for Clark’s sweater.

Health Group- Year 4, week 28

Good morning! I had a great week last week. I met my calorie targets Tues, Wed, Th, and close on Friday. I exercised all of those days, plus Saturday, doing weights twice. I feel good.

Health Group- Year 4, week 27

Ok, so everyone around me is losing weight. It’s the month for it, and I’m wanting to get in on it, too.

This past week, I did some core strengthening, but my treadmill is still buried under stuff from Nate’s painting project. Hopefully, we can get it accessible today and I can start on it next week. I’ve already bought running shoes.

A woman in our church congregation is a personal trainer at a gym, and Nate has talked with her about coming and setting up a program for us. That could be a fun kickstart.

I actually weighed myself today. I could tell I’d gained weight, and was afraid I was up around 232. And I’m only 226.5. That was happy news. Well, not happy necessarily, but a major relief anyway.

I’ve been struggling with Calorie King, because I’ve lost some of my patience with breaking down everything I eat to figure out calories. Breakfast, snacks, and lunch are easy enough, but dinner can be really tough. Janell and I emailed last week and she said some things that I think will help, mainly to not be so OCD about it and just guestimate the best that I can.

That has to be better than doing nothing.

So, I’m working towards a good week. Is anyone having some good, beginning of the year success?

Health Group- Year 4, week 26

Hi all. I did ok. No exercise, but I’ve been a little under the weather. I’ve been watching what I’ve been eating though. At least, Thursday through today.

Health Group- Year 4, week 25

I got on the treadmill this week and intended to do it several times… then Nate decided to paint his office and piled boxes of displaced office stuff on it. I’m not sure when I’ll have access again.

My health efforts are spluttering, but I’m still trying. I wanted to get a decent head start on the New Year so I wouldn’t feel like a complete loser, but loser or not, I’ll be working out in January, along with the majority of humanity.

Health Group- Year 4, week 24

Good morning! This week was the opposite of last week. I did my exercise, and ate an entire sweet shop’s worth of cookies. But I’m trying.
